Natural Hair and Styles

I am a natural hair fanatic and enjoy connecting with other naturalistas on regimens, hairstyles, and products. Follow me on my hair care and styling tips.

                                             My Current Regimen

I will begin with my story as to how I became natural. I began getting relaxers since I was around 6 years old and that was all I knew. I never saw my real curls and kinks until college. I big chopped May 7, 2010. The year before, I went to the hair salon religiously and had my hair relaxed every 8 weeks. During the winter break in 2009, I enough of the stringy ends and constant shedding; I decided to go natural. Today, I am happy to say that I am 3 years and 2 months natural and it has been a long journey, but it is worth it and I love my hair the way God made it. Now that that is out of the way here is my current hair regimen: I try to keep my hair care regimen simple and natural. Meaning that I stay away from sulfates, silicones, parabens and other bad ingredients. I have done my research and also from personal experience, my hair hates all of these types of fillers in products and has thrived without them

Cleanse:

This 100% Bentonite Clay. This clay can be used as a facial mask and also as a cleanser for the scalp and hair. I rave about this stuff all the time it leave my hair soft and defined.I literally do not need to do anything else to my hair. This is my staple in cleansing my scalp and hair every two weeks. I just pour some clay into a bowl and mix water and olive oil, but I am planning on changing the oil to ACV.

Protein treatment:

Once a month I mix mayo and olive oil and BAM! My hair is strengthened. I do this when it it is needed for my hair and it is the best treatment for my hair!

Deep Condition:

After I cleanse my scalp and also every other week from cleansing my scalp and hair I deep condition. I find no reason to condition my hair when I can just add some great oils o really soften my hair. I only use VO5 conditioners, because they are cheap, CG friendly, and give me a lot of product. I basically mix the conditioner with olive oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, or castor oil. It is usually a mix of these four oils. I leave it in for a few hours and rinse.

Daily and Night Routines:

After wash days I let my hair air dry in 4 braids. The next day I rub sweet almond oil and avocado     oil in my hair for moisture and shine.

For the night time routine. I do the L.O.C method. I spritz water on my hair, then use As I Am leave in, then I use Jojoba oil and seal everything in with my homemade mango and shea butter cream.

This my current regimen. Hope this helps and if you have any questions just post them. Also if you want to know how to make your own mango and shea butter cream or any other combos let me know:) HHJ

Intressthing! What's In For Natural Tresses

Hello everyone, yesterday I went to my first natural hair meet-up. I was excited to see all the vendors, hair care products, and to discuss with other naturalistas about caring for our curly/kinky hair. Well, I kind of knew this would be a small gathering, because when I looked on the website for the event there was only a small listing for vendors and there wasn't much hype for the event as is.. Also on the website to register for the event there were only 3 vendors listed and the words + More!.. FYI when you see words like that and not the actual vendors' name that means be careful, because there are probably only 3-4 vendors coming :). Anyways, when I got there they needed a few more minutes to set up and wait for "more" vendors. When we were able to come in every attendee received a bag of information, a curls sample, and a small sample from Alikay Naturals(I was upset there weren't there but it didn't surprise me, this was a small event).

There were four vendors: Elohi, a homemade jewelry company located in Tampa, Fl.,It Works! body enhancement company located locally in Tampa, Fl., One Natural, which had the most business at the event. They provided all natural juice YUM! Also there was a company Organo Gold, a coffee company. I am not really a coffee person so I skipped that table. The discussion panel was probably the most interesting this about this event. The panel consisted of MsRosievelt, Foxy Silver Gal, BlagueGoddess13 and NikaNaturally all from Youtube and other Social Networking sites. MsRosievlt is my favorite, because she has soooo many ideas for protective hairstyles. I asked two questions during this time. 1. How to wear twist outs/Braid outs in hot humid weather? They basically laughed, because we all are dealing with this:) I learned from this to wear something that will hold the twists, a gel. The 2. question I asked was is VG good in the winter months, summer months or both. I believe that I need to experiment for myself o know this, but I was told that VG is moisturizing in the summer months, because it is a humectant, but has a drying effect in the winter months. Also they stated throughout there discussion drink plenty of water for moisture to our natural hair.

Overall the event was good..for a first event, but my constructive input towards this event would be more hair samples and hair products to choose from and try out. There were only two hair samples and the vendors were in the business of  jewelry, coffee, juice and body care. More product samples next time. The panel discussion time was my favorite .I really enjoyed the discussion between everyone and the support provided to every naturalista and there questions and concerns. Lets continue to uplift each other in the wonderful decision to embrace the hair God gave us:)
